All Online Tax software Except Tax Chopper Missed a Popular Deduction for Canadians
Recently a Canadian DIY enthusiast tried all online tax software to calculate his own taxes. To everybody's surprise, he got several different results
based on the same data, and, Tax Chopper gave him the least tax owing, $35 less than those in the second place and around $1000 less than some
others.
Like many first time Tax Chopper users, he thought we must be wrong and expressed his
disbelief in his blog.
He contacted CRA and has got its reply.
It turned out that,
Tax Chopper is correct and has given him the most tax advantages.
Despite many differences, all other programs have one thing in common - they all missed a very popular deduction, which should be identified and
optimized by a good software but they all failed. The blogger's situation is neither rare nor complicated; it was his T5 slip which caused the
discrepancy.
Considering many companies provide both desktop programs and Online applications, you can safely bet that the desktop programs from those companies
have not given you the deduction either.
You can try our software for free to see if you have missed this deduction in 2008 or previous years. If so, you can ask CRA to
change your returns and get the difference back.
